Liverpool have received a big injury boost regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold, with reliable journalist Paul Joyce providing a positive update.

The Reds have been in a relatively fortunate position in the fitness department of late, with Arne Slot largely having an available squad to choose from.

On Saturday, however, Alexander-Arnold was forced off through injury in the 2-0 win away to Bournemouth, leading to concerns about him being sidelined for a significant period of time.

With matches continuing to come thick and fast for Liverpool, not having their influential vice-captain for a chunk of action would clearly be a big blow.

According to Joyce on X, however, Alexander-Arnold has avoided a long-term issue and will only be missing for a matter of “days” instead:

“Scan results after Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered thigh injury at Bournemouth show he will be out for days rather than weeks. Liverpool won’t take any risks with his fitness.”

A huge relief for Liverpool

There may be frustration regarding Alexander-Arnold at the moment, not least in terms of his future at Anfield, as well as some patchy performances, including a dreadful display at home to Manchester United last month.

That said, he is still one of the first names on Slot’s team sheet, so this update is brilliant news, suggesting that he may only miss this week’s domestic action.

Up first is the EFL Cup semi-final second leg clash with Tottenham on Thursday evening, with Liverpool trailing 2-0 from the first leg, before travelling to Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Assuming that assessment of Alexander-Arnold only being out for days is correct, it means that he will hopefully be in contention to start away to Everton in the Premier League a week on Wednesday.

That feels like a massive game in Liverpool’s season, with victory taking them nine points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table, and having the 26-year-old available would be huge.

The fact that Alexander-Arnold is a boyhood Reds supporter only adds to the importance of him playing, considering he knows more than anyone the significance of a Merseyside derby.
