Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha this summer, with the Brazilian attacker said to favour a move to Anfield over offers from other Premier League rivals.
The Reds are enjoying a fantastic Premier League campaign, and despite a narrow 3-2 loss to Fulham on Sunday, they still hold an 11-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. With the title seemingly within their grasp, Arne Slot’s side are already being linked with high-profile reinforcements ahead of the transfer window.
A Premier League title and a return to the Champions League will not only strengthen Liverpool’s position on the pitch but also off it, making them an even more attractive destination for top talent across Europe.
Latest on Liverpool interest in Wolves’ attacker Matheus Cunha
According to a report from Football Insider, Cunha is keen on joining Liverpool and would choose them over Manchester United and several other interested clubs.
The outlet cites former United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in the Premier League and offered insight into the situation.
“He’s definitely going to move in the summer,” said Brown.“He’s come out and said he wants to go, and once he’s said that there’s no chance he would be able to stay there – he won’t want to, but they won’t want him to either now.
“It’s just a question now as to who comes in for him. I think he’s a good player, there are a few question marks about his character but he’s a talented player.
“And there aren’t too many players like him about at the moment, even fewer that are available. He’s going to be in high demand, there’s no doubt about that.”
Who else is interested in Cunha?
Cunha, who has impressed at Molineux with his dynamic style and goal-scoring ability, is attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United. But Liverpool are seen as the frontrunners.
Brown continued: “Arsenal have been looking, Nottingham Forest are there, you’ve then got Chelsea and Liverpool – and I’m told Man United are interested too.
“Whether they could do a deal, it’s hard to say, but it might be difficult if they have to go up against the likes of those teams I’ve just mentioned.
“He will want Liverpool ahead of Man United at the moment.”
Arne Slot set for major summer overhaul of tiring Liverpool side
Liverpool’s midfield overhaul in the 2023 summer transfer window has paid dividends this season, but Slot is expected to target both attack and defence in the upcoming window.
Questions remain over Virgil van Dijk’s future, with contract talks yet to reach a resolution.
Regardless of whether the Dutchman stays, there’s a growing feeling Liverpool need more depth at centre-back – particularly given their injury struggles this season.
If Cunha does arrive at Anfield, it could signal a changing of the guard in Liverpool’s frontline, especially with doubts surrounding Darwin Núñez’s future.
As things stand, it seems Liverpool are preparing to flex their strength in the market—likely from a position as Premier League champions.
