Liverpool are linked with a move to sign AS Monaco duo Maghnes Akliouche and Lamine Camara, who will reportedly play their last game for the club tonight.

The Reds are in need of new signings this summer to correct an imbalance in profiles within the squad, with their sights set on Akliouche and Camara.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, the duo are set to play their last game for Monaco against Lille this evening.

Flavien Trésarrieu writes: Key players in the Monaco squad, Folarin Balogun, Maghnes Akliouche, and Lamine Camara, will be active in the transfer market this summer, particularly in England.

“In the meantime, they will undoubtedly play their last match at the Stade Louis-II this Sunday [tonight] against Lille.”

Akliouche

Liverpool have been linked with Akliouche for several months now, with his departure from Monaco now believed to be imminent.

On the 24-year-old’s transfer prospects, Trésarrieu writes: He is also being watched in England, where he could have signed last summer, but he turned down Tottenham’s persistent approach at the end of August.

“Now, Liverpool are reportedly more interested in him. The Reds have a major overhaul planned for this transfer window, and Akliouche and the prospect of spending around €50 million on the 24-year-old attacking midfielder (under contract until 2028) wouldn’t be a deterrent for them.”

Camara

Camara is a relatively more recent link, although Liverpool have been tracking and accumulating data on Camara for a couple years as well.

On his transfer future, Trésarrieu says: Highly valued by Sébastien Pocognoli for his daily commitment, Camara is also held in high regard in England.

“Like Akliouche, Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on him, and Newcastle, who will miss out on European competition next season, have also placed him high on their shortlist. Two years after being signed from Metz for €15 million, Camara (under contract until 2029) is expected to earn double that amount this summer.”

£70m combined for Akliouche and Camara is good business

Liverpool are extremely unlikely to come close to last summer’s £460m spend on new signings, with one report stating there is around £250m expected to be spent on this summer’s incomings.

Spending £70m on the Monaco duo would be good business. Both are the right age for the FSG transfer policy, are exciting and have player profiles that the Liverpool squad needs.

Time will tell if they do indeed join Liverpool, but should they make the move to Anfield, it’s my expectation that they will succeed there.
