Liverpool are expecting to announce their new signing Hugo Ekitike this week with his move to Anfield now a formality.

At long last, Liverpool’s hunt for an elite new centre forward is over with Ekitike set to join Arne Slot’s incredible squad.

I expect his decision to join the club was fairly straightforward based purely on how exciting it must be to consider playing alongside Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah.

Wirtz is yet to play a single Premier League game but is already one of the best creators in England while Salah is the best. Ekitike will believe he can score a silly number of goals being supplied by Mo and Flo.

Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester United did their best to sign him but Ekitike chose Liverpool – the benefit of being Premier League champions.

Ekitike scored 22 goals last season and if he can translate that to the England top flight, Liverpool will have perhaps finally found an elite striker.

When Ekitike to Liverpool will be announced

After several months of speculation, Liverpool have signed Ekitike with just a few things left to sort out before his move will be made officialy to the public.

Speaking on the Redmen TV‘s Daily News Update, journalist Lewis Steele reports that Liverpool are extremely close to revealing Hugo Ekitike in a Liverpool kit.

Steele reports: “He will probably be here, today is Wednesday, maybe on Friday, he will get here?

“I expect it to all be done today, maybe official confirmation later today, UK time, maybe tomorrow, but it’s all done, nothing to worry about there.”

While it is said to a transfer that will cost Liverpool over £70m, Ekitike must be a truly special player if both sporting director Richard Hughes and CEO of Football Michael Edwards believe he’s worth the money.

In a summer window where Liverpool tried their luck at signing Alexander Isak for £120m, Ekitike seems to be the next best thing and is a few years younger too.

The proof will be in the pudding, however, with the French forward now under a lot of pressure to deliver the goods this season.
