Liverpool’s summer transfer window is set to be one of the most eventful in recent memory, with several key departures and major signings expected.

While much of the focus has been on potential exits for Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is also likely to leave Anfield in search of first-team football.

According to GiveMeSport, Leeds United have now entered the race to sign the highly-rated shot-stopper, with Liverpool willing to sell the Republic of Ireland international for a fee in the region of £30 million.

Leeds United keen on Kelleher as promotion beckons

With Leeds currently leading the Championship and on course for a return to the Premier League, they are already planning for life back in the top flight.

Strengthening their goalkeeping department is a priority, and Kelleher has emerged as a key target.

The 25-year-old has long been regarded as one of the best backup goalkeepers in English football, but his chances of overtaking Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s No. 1 have always seemed slim.

With Giorgi Mamardashvili set to return from his loan spell as Alisson’s deputy, Liverpool appear ready to cash in on Kelleher.

A growing market for Kelleher

Leeds aren’t the only club interested in signing Kelleher.

Bournemouth are also reportedly keen, with the Cherries viewing him as an ideal option should they qualify for European football next season.

Given his experience in the Premier League and cup competitions – including a heroic Carabao Cup-winning performance in 2022 – Kelleher is seen as an excellent long-term investment for any club needing a reliable no. 1.

Liverpool’s asking price of £30 million reflects both his potential and his proven ability at the top level. Given the demand for top-tier goalkeepers, the Reds could find themselves at the centre of a bidding war, with multiple clubs vying for Kelleher’s signature.

A smart move for all parties

From Liverpool’s perspective, selling Kelleher represents a significant financial boost that could be reinvested into strengthening other areas of the squad.

For Kelleher, the move would finally offer him the chance to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper – a step he has been ready for over the past few seasons.

With Leeds, Bournemouth, and possibly other clubs ready to compete for his signature, Kelleher’s future is set to be one of the more intriguing storylines of Liverpool’s busy summer transfer window.
