A Michael Olise release clause would be advantageous for Liverpool, says Christian Falk

Talk of Liverpool signing Michael Olise in 2027 is gaining traction despite the mind-boggling money such a deal would involve.

Liverpool’s spending behaviour has changed markedly in the last year, with £364m committed to the signings of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and now Bradley Barcola.

Not to mention £79m on Hugo Ekitike, which takes this number to £443m.

That’s a far cry from the £97m the club spent to sign the iconic front three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané.

What has prompted this drastic change in transfer policy is unclear, but it could see them sign Michael Olise in 2027, although it’s difficult to imagine the type of money that would be required to force Bayern to part ways with the mercurial Frenchman.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has refused to promise that Olise will be at the club for the start of the 2027/28 season, saying making such guarantees in football is “risky.”

This comes after Christian Falk reported that Bayern are preparing a new contract for Olise, who is out of contract in 2029, which would include a release clause to ward off interest from Liverpool. The Reds expressed interest in the 24-year-old this summer, setting off alarm bells in Munich.

Now, Falk carries another report on Liverpool’s interest in Olise.

Christian Falk says Liverpool could be the beneficiaries of Bayern’s plan to include a release clause in Michael Olise’s contract

Reporting this weekend, Falk reports that Liverpool’s interest in Olise is “well documented” and that the inclusion of a release clause in the winger’s potential new contract would both protect Bayern and Olise.

Falk reports: “Liverpool’s interest in Michael Olise could become increasingly interesting. The Reds’ interest in the French winger is well documented, and Bayern Munich could include a release clause if the 24-year-old signs a new contract.

“Olise’s current deal runs until 2029, but Bayern are reportedly concerned about entering 2027/28 with him still on his current terms.

“That could be significant for Liverpool, who have been linked with Olise as they continue to search for a long-term solution on the right wing.

“Bayern were once proud of having no release clauses, but that stance has changed, with players such as Musiala, Upamecano and Kane now having them.

“Release clauses allow clubs to secure players on long-term deals while giving them freedom if they want to leave, with the club guaranteed a substantial fee for a successor.

“That could ultimately work in Liverpool’s favour if Olise pushes for a move in the future.”

Olise is the perfect like-for-like replacement for Salah, with the French superstar the only player in Europe who matches the Egyptian Liverpool legend stylistically and in terms of attacking output.

Last season was the best of Olise’s career, with 22 goals and 31 assists. He already has three goals and one assist in four games this season, suggesting that form is set to continue.

At 24, Olise is just getting started too.

It’s unclear what the value of the release clause that Bayern would insert into Olise’s contract would be, but reports in the summer suggested Real Madrid were considering a €223 million (£191m) bid. I’d imagine a release clause would be lower than that, but it’s impossible to know at this stage.
