AC Milan have reportedly made Darwin Nunez their first-choice striker target this summer and have reportedly already made contact to initiate talks with the Uruguayan.

Liverpool’s hopes of selling Nunez have become more and more complex with each passing week this summer transfer window. Liverpool’s high asking price is unattainable.

The Reds acquired his services for £64m in 2022 and while they are asking for £12m less than they paid, £52m for a player that Liverpool and Arne Slot clearly don’t rate is a tough sell.

Even Saudi Pro League clubs, known for their lavish and borderline nonsensical spending, have refused to take a punt on Nunez so far.

Al Hilal remain in contact with Nunez but it’s doubtful Liverpool will have their £52m asking price met this summer.

AC Milan enter the race – Darwin Nunez is “the first choice for the Rossoneri”

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan are making an “attempt” to sign Darwin Nunez this summer. The 26-year-old is considered to be “the first choice for the Rossoneri offensive department.”

Di Marzio writes: “The first choice for Milan’s attack is Darwin Nuñez. The Rossoneri have made an attempt for the Liverpool player, but the negotiation remains difficult.

“The Uruguayan represents a first choice for Igli Tare, who pushes and wants to try as much as possible for the class of ’99. Kalimuendo, Vlahovic and Hojlund are also on the list.

“The negotiation remains complicated. Al Hilal is also interested in Nuñez, but Milan have already spoken with the player. The Arab club has not yet made official offers, but remains vigilant about the striker.”

Liverpool may benefit in selling Nunez later rather than sooner

While alarm bells are sounding regarding Liverpool’s failure to sell Nunez so far, the longer the summer window drags on and the closer Deadline Day draws near, the more desperate the likes of AC Milan and Al Hilal will become.

Liverpool may well still receive close to their asking price although that still seems quite a remote possibility.

One way or another, Liverpool will find a way to offload Nunez, whose £140,000 per week wages are no longer feasible.
