Alexis Mac Allister wants a new Liverpool contract and he’s making no secret about it

|

The way that Alexis Mac Allister celebrated his goal against Tottenham tells you a lot about how happy the Argentine is at Anfield and how badly he wants a new deal.

To be fair, Macca hasn’t exactly been subtle about his attempt to make it clear that a new deal hasn’t been offered yet, with two years remaining on his deal.

Before the 2-1 Atletico Madrid win, Mac Allister joined Andoni Iraola for his pre-match press conference. He spoke about his desire to stay at Liverpool.

Mac Allister said: “There was a chance [to leave] of course, like everybody knows,” said the 27-year-old, clearly keen to speak about it openly.”

“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very sad. I think everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club, every single day in training. Of course I have good games and bad games, but I always give my best.

“I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts, which makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me sad that I didn’t get mine. Of course there is still time [to be offered a new contract]. Fans don’t need to worry because I will give 100% until my last day. We will see what happens. There was options to leave this summer. I think right now I’m in the right club.”

I do also wonder if Iraola knew he would say something about his contract and wants him to get one too, but that’s speculation so don’t quote me on it.

Mac Allister was brilliant against Bournemouth again on Sunday, turning in a performance worthy of a gritty 1-0 win away to a team that hadn’t lost since Iraola started their unbeaten streak in January.

Mac Allister talks about his Liverpool contract again

Now on international break with Argentina for the next two weeks, Mac Allister has spoken about his Liverpool future again.

He told ESPN: “There isn’t really a concrete decision yet. The reality is that I still have two years left.

“I’m going to give it my all; I have two years left. A lot of things could happen in those two years, and there are plenty of options, so for my part, I’m really enjoying where I am.

“Hopefully, it’ll be for more years, but if it’s just two, that’s perfect. I want to enjoy it because I have no doubt that this is one of the best clubs in the world.”

There has been talk of Liverpool signing Lamine Camara to replace Mac Allister, but in reality they should be signing Camara, keeping Macca and continuing with Trey Nyoni’s development.

The 19-year-old was fantastic for Liverpool when he came off the bench, showing remarkable tactical discipline in a nervy 1-0 finish.
