Speculation over Arne Slot’s future as Liverpool manager continues amid fresh claims that Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola could take over.

After Mohamed Salah’s explosive statement, it appears as though there may be a change of heart from FSG regarding keeping with with Slot for the 2026-27 season.

Salah wrote: “I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work, and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

“Our crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.”

Liverpool have lost 20 games in all competitions this season, including an unacceptable 12 games in the Premier League.

Latest on Slot future and Iraola links to Liverpool

According to claims at TEAMtalk, Liverpool “are among a growing list of clubs, including three within Germany, that hold a strong admiration for the departing Bournemouth boss.”

The vast majority of reports on Slot’s future suggest that Liverpool are not going to sack the Dutchman, yet would be a massive mistake given the data available from this season.

Iraola is preparing to leave Bournemouth this summer after more than proving himself in a modest setup which saw him work with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes for several years.

The report from TEAMtalk continues: “Those close to Iraola insist no formal talks have taken place with Liverpool at this stage, but they also acknowledge that the opportunity to manage at Anfield would be viewed as one of the elite jobs in European football.

“Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is another key figure in the situation.

“Hughes was instrumental in convincing Iraola to move to Bournemouth, and the pair are understood to have developed a relationship built on huge mutual respect.

“That connection is now being closely watched amid growing uncertainty surrounding Arne Slot’s future at Anfield.”

Crucially, they claim that despite reports in the media, Slot’s future is “not as secure as the club’s public messaging has suggested.”
