Andy Robertson says he would love to extend his Liverpool contract beyond his current deal’s 2026 expiry date but as things stand, there aren’t concrete developments on that front.
While all the contract talk this season has centred aroun Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, there are a few players heading into the final years of their contract.
Arne Slot may be set to keep Salah and van Dijk but Caoimhin Kelleher, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson are all in the penultimate year of their contracts.
And now, Robertson has made it clear he wants to stay at the club and even joked that Jamie Carragher needs to stop linking left-backs with Liverpool to replace the Scotsman.
Robertson hopes to receive a contract offer from Liverpool
Andy Robertson spoke to Jamie Carragher at Football For Change’s charity lunch and said, via the Liverpool Echo: “I have only got a year left, so I hope all you guys can help me with making the same noise around a new contract as you did with Mo and Virgil’s!”
Robbo then made a joke to Carragher: “Maybe you can stop linking the club with other left-backs as well!
“No look, I’ve had eight wonderful years so far and I have a year left. I am not as young as I once was but I love this club and I have had some great memories here, so let’s see what the future holds.
“I still believe I can still produce good performances and some really good performances and I think I have done that this season.
“So I still think I can produce at the top level and if I can do that then that is where I belong and hopefully I can stay here for many years to come.”
It could soon be the end of an era at Anfield
Even if Robertson extends his contract, this summer will mark the start of a new era if Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves the club to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Together, Robbo and Trent have a total of 34 goals and 158 assists. They are undoubtedly the best fullback duo in Premier League history and perhaps in football overall.
Liverpool will certainly miss Trent when he leaves but fortunately Robertson’s experience and light-hearted nature will remain as Arne Slot builds his new-look side in phase two of his Anfield adventure.
