Andy Robertson is set to compete with incoming left-back Milos Kerkez once Liverpool complete a deal to sign him from Bournemouth.
The Liverpool ECHO reports that “Liverpool remain confident of striking a deal for Milos Kerkez” as they continue to negotiate with Bournemouth, who value the Hungarian 21-year-old.
Reportedly, Liverpool are yet to submit a bid but “stepped up” their interst last week and are now in “direct dialogue” with the Cherries.
Interestingly, it is their former sporting director – now Liverpool’s – that is leading the discussions with Bournemouth’s new executive Simon Francis.
Liverpool are also close to signing Florian Wirtz with the German very close to making a Premier League record transfer to Anfield where he is expected to thrive alongside the likes of teammate and new signing Jeremie Frimpong.
And now, Robertson has teased the two new signings. Between a potential £45m fee for Kerkez and the rumoured £126m fee Leverkusen are after, it could cost the Reds as much as £171m – albeit not up front.
Robbo excited for more competition once Liverpool complete a deal for Kerkez
Speaking to Sky Sports, via the Liverpool ECHO, at the charity golf day for his AR26 foundation, Robertson discussed the club’s transfer activity and commented on a potential move to sign Kerkez.
Robbo said: “I think at any big club you always have to keep moving, the club always moves forward and I think you’ve also seen other big clubs like Manchester City have been very active early doors in the window.
“I know we’ve only got Jeremie Frimpong through the door so far but it looks as though one or two others are going to be close from what we can see on Sky Sports News. But just now we’re at the top, we obviously won the league, and it’s important that the club keeps improving and finding ways to do that.
Andy Robertson on Florian Wirtz:
“We're certainly linked with him, that is for sure, you can't miss it and not see it. But if we get it through then an exciting one in and we have a lot of exciting talent in there. He is a right good player and he will help us and if he does get… pic.twitter.com/cNMKXj8laH

“The club have identified certain positions where they want to get new blood in, it looks like players we’re linked to are all younger players and they are all exciting players as well.
“So when you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect competition and I have always faced that, everyone here has faced that in their own positions and I expect nothing less.
“I want the club to be ambitious, they are doing that and wherever we fit into that, if we’re happy with our role, we stay and we do it and if not then I am sure there will be a few out the door as well. But you know, that’s the nature of football and it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and we keep moving.”
