Liverpool head coach Arne Slot “isn’t happy” with one massive issue at the club currently, according to a fresh claim from former scout Mick Brown.

Slot finds himself under huge pressure once more, following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland, just when last weekend’s 2-0 win at West Ham had given him some respite.

The Dutchman is clinging onto his job, with Liverpool’s results and performances nowhere near good enough, and new signings struggling to get going.

Despite spending a huge amount of money in the summer transfer window, Brown now claims that Slot remains unhappy with the squad at his disposal, hinting at further new signings soon:

“I’m told the manager still isn’t happy with his squad. There are a few positions he still feels they could strengthen in, despite all the money they spent in the summer, because they haven’t been good enough recently.

“He wants to add another centre-half to his squad, that’s no surprise to anybody. When you look through this Liverpool squad, there are still three or four positions where you feel they could strengthen, and it seems the manager feels the same.

“A centre-back is one, then are their full-backs good enough, then a midfielder, Salah hasn’t been performing so maybe a forward, there are a lot of problems there. It was a massive window for them in the summer, and it could be another in January because there are a few question marks still around this squad.”

Can Slot use Liverpool’s squad depth as an excuse?

Some will look at Slot’s comments and wonder how he can not be happy with his squad, considering Liverpool twice broke their transfer record this summer, on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

That said, the Reds do still look light in certain positions, especially centre-back, with a new addition there in January something that needs to at least be considered.

A new winger who can play on either flank could also be ideal, with Mohamed Salah looking past his absolute best and Cody Gakpo a frustrating figure at times.

Next summer feels more likely, in terms of transfer focus, and more than anything, Slot will hope he is still in charge of Liverpool in January.
