Liverpool is far away from last season’s form when they showcased a dominant force to win the Premier League. This year, the team might even miss out on the Champions League spot if it continues with its bad results. The Reds are currently sitting in 5th position, trailing behind Aston Villa.

Seeing this massive drop in form and performance by the team made a lot of fans frustrated and angry. Most of them point the finger at Arne Slot and blame him for the bad situation the club is currently in. In a recent press conference, the manager gave his thoughts on the fans’ criticism.

What Did Slot Say About the Disappointed Fans and Bettors?

The first signs of frustration appeared by the end of September last year. At that time, Liverpool lost 4 straight EPL matches, one Champions League match, and the EFL Cup 1/8 finals. Since then, the club has struggled to maintain a steady form.

Fans’ support towards Arne Slot continues to decrease following the club’s recent bad results. The manager acknowledged that it’s never nice to see frustrated fans.

He also noted that Liverpool fans have a history of long-lasting support towards their managers in good and bad times. This led him to believe that he’s done a lot of things wrong, which isn’t a good feeling.

Slot proceeded by saying that he knows how the football industry works, as winnings can easily change things. That’s what he’s aiming at in the upcoming match, as he feels like the team is ready for that.

The support may be at a minimum, but many fans still hope that the club bounces back and ends the season in style. Punters are also following Liverpool’s performance with a lot of interest. Some of them are even considering backing the team with a Virgin Bet sign up offer for new customers.

How Bad Is Liverpool’s Current Form

At the moment, Liverpool is 5th in the Premier League table with 49 points. Its overall form includes 14 wins, 7 draws, and 10 losses, meaning that the club lost nearly a third of its league matches.

The only realistic objective for the Reds is to aim for a Champions League spot. But they are currently 5 points away from the 4th position, occupied by Aston Villa. Chelsea is also in play for the same spot, as they have just one point fewer than Liverpool.

Villa were in poor form in recent weeks as they won one, drew one, and lost 3 matches. This allowed Manchester United to take the 3rd spot from them. Things would’ve been different if the Reds had won more points in their last 3 matches.

Liverpool lost to 20th-positioned Wolverhampton and in-form Brighton. Plus, the team ended up drawing the match against out-of-form Tottenham. Overall, Liverpool lost 8 points, which would’ve been enough for reaching the 3rd position.

Can Slot Still Save Liverpool’s Season?

Fighting for a Champions League spot seems like the main task for Liverpool in the Premier League. But what about the other competitions that the team is playing in?

The Reds are still in play in the FA Cup and the Champions League. In fact, their next 2 matches are in both competitions. First, they’ll face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Then, they’ll go against PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals. They’ll play both matches away, which makes things even more difficult.

We must note that Liverpool lost both Premier League matches to Manchester City this season. However, the Citizens are also struggling to maintain a steady winning form. In other words, things can go either way in this FA Cup clash.

As for the Champions League, Liverpool will have a tough job winning against in-form PSG. Both teams met last year in the quarter-finals, where the French side were the better side in the penalty shootouts.

PSG might also get an advantage as the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) is set to postpone its match against Lens. This gives the Parisians more days to rest and prepare for the rematch versus the Reds. Let’s see how Arne Slot and his team deal with this tough schedule.
