As Mohamed Salah announces he will leave Liverpool at the end of this season, a “bad sign” has reportedly been created by head coach Arne Slot.

Salah has confirmed that his legendary Reds career will reach its conclusion in May, with part of his goodbye message saying:

“To the fans…I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career, and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.

“Another big problem for Slot is he keeps making excuses. Sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say, look, we were second best on the day and we’re going to do out best to improve. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

It also still feels very possible that Slot could depart in the summer, following a season of huge struggle at Liverpool, and former scout Mick Brown hasn’t held back in his criticism of the Dutchman to Football Insider:

“Another big problem for Slot is he keeps making excuses. Sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say, look, we were second best on the day and we’re going to do out best to improve.

“But he comes out with some outlandish statements about the chances they created and they should’ve scored more and decisions went against them. It gets tiring listening to him and that’s not just me, the fans and I’m sure the club are getting sick of it too, he’s running out of excuses now.

“He can’t keep speaking about games they’ve won before, that doesn’t matter when you’re losing to Brighton and drawing with Tottenham, it’s irrelevant. The focus should be on the position they’re in now and why they’ve got here, but it’s almost like he doesn’t want to accept the responsibility, and that’s a bad sign.”

Will Arne Slot leave alongside Mo Salah at Liverpool?

Liverpool fans are understandably sad about the Salah news, even though he isn’t world-class footballer he was in his prime, but the same love isn’t there for Slot.

He won the Premier League last season, which was a wonderful achievement, but he has underperformed badly this time around, and a change is needed.

Slot isn’t helping himself with some of his comments and behaviour, as Brown alludes to, and it is hard to see him turning things around.
