A “special” Liverpool player is now on the verge of leaving the club and joining another Premier League team, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
So much focus has been on the Reds’ incoming signings this summer, but they have also seen a lot of players move on to new clubs.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are among them, but there is still time for others to seal summer exits before the transfer window closes.
According to Romano on X, Ben Doak is now on the verge of completing a £25m move to Bournemouth, bringing an end to his time at Anfield:
“Bournemouth are close to getting deal done for Ben Doak worth £25m package. Negotiations at advanced stages with Liverpool, as Guardian reports.”
The right time for Doak to leave Liverpool?
It is always a shame to see a young player leave Liverpool, especially someone with the natural ability of Doak, who is such a vibrant wide player, possessing relentless pace and unpredictability.
The Scot is still only 19, so there is a risk in the Reds selling him, with Jurgen Klopp a big admirer of the Scot during their time working together, saying:
“Special boy. Really confident, has something nobody else delivers really, this kind of dribbling, this kind of straight-forward bravery, all these kind of things.”
That said, minutes were always going to be hard to come by for Doak moving forward, with Mohamed Salah still going strong in the Scotland international’s preferred right-sided attacking role.
While the teenager has excelled in the youth team for Liverpool, and shone out on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship last season, the step up to making the grade in the Reds’ senior setup is vast, so cashing in on him now makes sense.
Hopefully, Doak can go on to enjoy a great career, remaining in the Premier League and becoming a key man for Scotland, but this feels like the natural time for his Reds career to reach its conclusion.
Liverpool will just hope that he doesn’t go on to prove them too wrong, even though he leaves with the club’s best wishes.
