Djibril Cisse

He had extreme pace, a ferocious shot and fantastic hair, but unfortunately Djibril Cisse’s legs were made of jelly. One of France’s hottest prospects joined Liverpool in 2004 for £14 million and was expected to set the Premier League alight with his dynamic style of play. In Cisse’s 20th game for the club a freak accident occurred where he caught his foot in the turf, which resulted in a broken fibula and tibia that would rule him out for over 8 months. The physio said that Cisse was close to losing his leg below the knee that day but his football career was saved by operations. After an impressive comeback from injury, Cisse broke his fibula again while on international duty and never played for Liverpool again. In 2008 Cisse spent a loan spell at Sunderland where he scored ten goals but again picked up some injuries along the way.
