Rumoured Liverpool transfer target Mateus Mane is reportedly loved by scouts, ahead of a potential auction for his signature in the summer window.
The 18-year-old has been a rare positive in a dire season for Wolves, catching the eye with his attacking performances, scoring twice and assisting once in the Premier League.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Mane at the end of the season, even being said to be in pole position to sign him, and former scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider about the admiration for him:
“A lot of clubs are having a look at Mane. Sometimes a player comes out of nowhere and you think ‘wow, who is this’, and that’s when you need your scouts watching him so you know if he might be of interest. If you’re a club like Man United or Liverpool, you have to make it your business to know about every emerging talent, especially if they’re playing in the Premier League.
“From what I’m told, scouts have been very impressed by what they’ve seen from Mane. Mane is still very young, very raw, but you only improve in those areas with experience. He’s playing at a high level in a Wolves side which has struggled all season, but they like what they see and then it’s about whether he can make the step up.
Can Mateus Mane be Liverpool’s next attacking star?
There is so much to admire about Mane at such a young age, with the attacking midfielder performing with so freedom this season, despite playing in a bottom-of-the-table side.
He has already won seven caps for England’s Under-18s, no doubt being seen as a future key man in the senior setup, with Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson claiming he “could be a superstar” one day.
It clearly won’t be easy for Liverpool to get Mane, considering the likely battle for his signature this summer, but they are one of Europe’s most appealing clubs, and they will hopefully sell him the idea of joining them.
Bringing in young homegrown talent has to always be seen as a priority for the Reds, and if Mane ends up being one of the summer arrivals, it would only be a good thing.
