Liverpool are celebrating their 20th league title with an open bus parade through the city today and Calvin Harris has been again enlisted to set the mood.

In 2022, Harris was brought in to celebrate the cup double when the Reds won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and he is once again partying with the Liverpool players, Arne Slot and some of the club big wigs like John W. Henry.

The story of how he was roped into the celebrations today involves Virgil van Dijk and a lack of hesitation on Calvin Harris’ part.

Speaking to Liverpool’s media team before taking up his DJ duties on the bus, Calvin Harris said that van Dijk didn’t ask him to help them celebrate the title this year, he told him.

His response was exactly how most fans would reply.

“This started with Andy Robertson,” Harris told Liverpoolfc.com ahead of today’s title parade.

“I can’t remember how we first got chatting, I genuinely can’t remember that. It must have been some kind of Instagram thing, I probably liked one of his pictures or something like that.

“Then, I was travelling; it was Liverpool v Newcastle at St. James’ in 2022 and we bumped into each other, they were flying somewhere and we bumped into each other. Andy was like, ‘Do you fancy doing the [parade]?’ I went, ‘I suppose so!’

“And I think it was just an idea he just had sort of there and then. Then, one of the senior guys took over and made contact and made it happen.

“This year, Virg took the reins – I guess [being] captain and all that. He was more just like, ‘You’re doing the bus this year!’ [I said,] ‘Alright, I’ll be there!’”

Liverpool are not just celebrating the Premier League title but also defying the expectations set for them at the start of the campaign.

After Jurgen Klopp left the club, it seemed as though the club was set for a period of uncertainty but Arne Slot has blown all expectations out of the water with his calm and calculated approach this term.

The players will now head off to their national teams before resuming their celebration with a rest on vacation before regrouping for pre-season in July.
