Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is “going to move on” from Anfield this summer, according to a new update from former scout Mick Brown.
The Irishman has proven to be a fantastic understudy to Alisson in recent years, filling in admirably during a number of injury absences for the Brazilian.
Kelleher may feel that this summer is the right time to move on, however, especially with Giorgi Mamardashvili coming in from Valencia.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown claimed that the 26-year-old will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, backing him to potentially join Premier League rivals Chelsea.
“Kelleher is a good goalkeeper and he’s going to move on from Liverpool,” Brown said.
“He’ll be hugely disappointed because he’s given his [all], the services he’s given Liverpool, the opportunities that he’s had, he’s never let them down.
“He’s developed as a goalkeeper, but the money that they’re going to get is pure profit. He’s out of contract at the end of next season, not this season, so everything points to an exit for him.
“Is Chelsea an obvious choice? It’s not an obvious choice, but Chelsea are going to recruit. Chelsea do need a goalkeeper. What would he cost? 20, 25 million. If Liverpool are to get a profit for him, it’s going to be this summer.”
Right time for Kelleher to leave Liverpool
Kelleher has reached a point where it makes sense for all parties for him to move on, considering he is good enough to be first-choice for another Premier League side.
While Arne Slot would no doubt like the idea of keeping him, with Mamardashvili coming in and Alisson still possibly the best ‘keeper in the world, his chances are going to be limited.
Kelleher can forge a great career for himself away from Liverpool, though, having been described as “outstanding” by Steve McManaman earlier this season, and it would be the wrong decision to stay.
Should the Republic of Ireland international leave, he will be remembered as a strong servant for the Reds, not least after plenty of EFL Cup heroics, helping his side win the trophy in both 2022 and 2024.
