A “wonderful” Liverpool transfer target had “close family members at Anfield” to watch the Reds beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
The Reds have progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, not always hitting form against Saints, but going through thanks to goals from Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
The night was marred by a red card for Ekitike, however, following a stupid second yellow card for taking his shirt off when celebrating, as well as a potentially serious injury to debutant Giovanni Leoni.
The transfer window may be closed currently, but Liverpool will still be eyeing possible new signings in 2026, and Indy Kaila has taken to X to claim that Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba’s family were present at Anfield on Tuesday:
“Carlos Baleba’s close family members at Anfield tonight. They also visited Old Trafford on Saturday. They are really impressed with the set up at Anfield.”
Baleba the perfect addition to Liverpool’s midfield?
Baleba is such an impressive young midfielder, even though he hasn’t necessarily hit top form so far this season, and it is easy to see him flourishing for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old has been mentioned as a target for the Reds for months now, with Manchester United also in the mix to snap him up, with Alan Shearer lauding him last season, saying:
“He showed energy, aggression and he got rattled them. Brighton were a completely different team in the second half and it started because of him, he played on the front foot. They should have scored four or five. He was absolutely wonderful. He changed the tempo and performance on the front foot and defensively. They got the three points which they deserved.”
At 21, Baleba’s best years are still a long way away, so he could come in as a long-term option for Liverpool, before maturing into a key starter over time, putting pressure on the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is another strong option, so Arne Slot and Richard Hughes will have a decision to make, but signing one of them at the end of the season makes complete sense.
