Liverpool are one of the sides interested in signing Ajax star Jorrel Hato but their hopes of doing so may have received a blow with the news that Chelsea have held talks with him in recent days.
There is a lot going on at Anfield as Liverpool continue to find ways to improve the side that won the Premier League in Arne Slot’s debut season as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
The Dutch coach overcame expectations to bring the league title back to Merseyside but he is wasting no time as the Reds look to add more quality to the Liverpool squad.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold is on his way out this summer to join Real Madrid for free, sporting director Richard Hughes acted quickly to sign his replacement Jeremie Frimpong for a bargain £29.6m fee.
He is not likley to be the last addition Liverpool make to their defensive ranks with Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez extremely close to a move to Liverpool.
Slot will still need at least one more addition to his defence with Liverpool in need of more depth at centre-back.
Joe Gomez is very injury prone and Jarrel Quansah simply failed to make the most of his opportunities this season. Of course, Virgil van Dijk signing a new contract was the most important piece of business Liverpool could have done this year.
Latest on Ajax prodigy Jorrel Hato and Liverpool’s interest this summer
Chelsea have been in contact with Ajax “in the last few days” over a potential move to sign Jorrel Hato, according to Caught Offside, while the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United have alll “asked for information on the player.”
Caught Offside claim to be in touch with “sources with close access to the player’s entourage” and they allegedly state that Chelsea are eyeing a move to sign Hato that will materialise “later in the summer.”
The Blues, however, are prioritising transfers for goalkeeper Mike Maignan and silky forward Jamie Gittens which could give their Premier League rivals time to sneak in and poach a deal for Hato.
Caught Offside’s source reportedly claims: “Chelsea are aware that other Premier League clubs are closely monitoring Hato’s situation.
“Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle have already gathered information and remain attentive. This puts pressure on Chelsea, as waiting too long could allow other teams to gain an advantage in the race.”
Additionally, Ajax will reportedly consider a sale in the region of €50m (£40m) with the Eredivisie giants “resigned” to losing Hato although they will “hold firm on their asking price.”
