Curtis Jones has seemingly hinted that he will stay at Liverpool this summer despite intense links to a move to Inter Milan.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on the final day of the Premier League season, saying he is ‘excited’ to go again next season.

“I’m excited [for] next season, it should be great,” Jones said. “We can put everything behind us and just go and enjoy it. Go and play free.”

There was some speculation during the game about Jones’ reaction to scoring from Mohamed Salah’s final assist for the club. The midfielder had a very emotionless reaction to finding the back of the net despite opening the scoring at Anfield.

It has been opined that he was concerned Salah was offside in the buildup to the goal, but with all the speculation over his future amid rumours of a rift with manager Arne Slot, it will be interesting to see what happens this summer.

Jones continued: “The important thing, as I said, is that this club is huge on sticking as one, and our family, and the fans are always there.

“It’s important that we got in the Champions League, and so next year, it’ll be exciting again.

“The lads that we bought have now played enough games that they will feel that they’re part of this as well, so you’ll see the best of them as well.”

It would be disappointing to see Jones leave even if understandable

Jones is a technically super player. Some criticise his tendency to take too many touches, but he’s the only midfielder Liverpool have capable of setting the tempo.

Yet, he has been underused by Slot this season. Despite both Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch regressing from last season’s high standards, the Scouser started just 18 Premier League games in 2025-26.

He’s also the only senior Scouser in the team, so to see him leave is just another way you can look at the unrest in the Liverpool first team.

That said, leaving makes sense from his perspective. If Arne Slot stays, it doesn’t make sense for him to.

At 25, he hasn’t been called up to the England squad for the FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA. This leaves just two more realistic opportunities for him to represent his country at a World Cup.
