It is “quite clear” that Curtis Jones wants to leave Liverpool after a tumultuous period in his career, according to a new claim from former scout Mick Brown.
The midfielder has struggled to become a key starter for his boyhood club, and this summer, there have been signs of frustration coming to the fore.
Jones argued on the pitch with Dominik Szoboszlai during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, and there have been continuous links regarding a summer move to Inter Milan.
Many things point towards the 25-year-old having played his final competitive game for the Reds, and speaking to Football Insider, Brown echoed that sentiment:
“It’s become quite clear not that Curtis Jones is keen to leave Liverpool. He is not happy with his role at the club, his playing time, the position he’s been asked to play in across the last couple of seasons, or where he ranks in the pecking order.
“Now, judging by that video that we’ve seen, it appears he’s not happy with the captaincy either and feels he should be more involed at that level. I think when issues and frustrations like that start to crop up, that’s when it becomes clear that a player needs a fresh start, a new club, maybe even a new country.
“It seems that things just aren’t quite going to go the way he’s wanted them to at Liverpool, and that’s fine, it happens sometimes. But there’s no point having him sulking and hanging his head, or arguing with his teammates on the pitch. It’s better for everybody if he moves on, and all parties will be keen to make it happen.”

It does feel increasingly Jones will join Inter before the summer transfer window slams shut, with his body language in the 4-2 defeat to Leeds United not exactly positive.
To see him leave Liverpool would be a shame, given his attributes – Arne Slot called him a “complete” midfielder when he was in charge – but he doesn’t seem overly happy, which will surely only end one way.
If Andoni Iraola can’t guarantee him a regular starting berth, Jones may feel that Inter are better for his development, but they must surely have to bid more than the rumoured potential offer of around £34.2m.
Jones leaving Liverpool at 25 is far from ideal, but ultimately, things don’t appear to be working out in the manner that he would have hoped a few years ago.
