Liverpool’s midfield is once again under the spotlight heading into the summer transfer window, with both Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister being linked with potential exits as the club prepares for another period of transition under Arne Slot.

There is growing speculation that Liverpool may not be able to keep hold of all their key midfield options, particularly with interest building from abroad and internal decisions still to be made about squad balance.

Curtis Jones is currently the more talked-about candidate for a possible departure. The Liverpool academy graduate has attracted attention from clubs in Italy and the Premier League, with reports suggesting Inter Milan are among those monitoring his situation closely.

Jones is also entering a key contractual phase, with his current deal running down in the background and no clear indication that an extension is close. That situation has only increased speculation that this summer could represent a natural exit point for both player and club.

There is also a sense that Jones has struggled to fully cement a consistent role in Slot’s preferred midfield setup. While he has featured regularly across the season, his position in the hierarchy has fluctuated, leading to questions about his long-term place at Anfield.

Reports have also suggested that interest from overseas clubs has already made an impression, with suggestions that a move abroad could appeal if Liverpool decide to cash in rather than risk his value dropping further.

Alexis Mac Allister remains less certain to leave

In contrast, Alexis Mac Allister’s situation appears more stable, even if he has also been linked with a possible departure in some discussions.

The World Cup winner remains a key technical presence in Liverpool’s midfield and is still viewed internally as an important long-term asset. While his form has been inconsistent at times this season, there is no strong indication that the club is actively planning for his exit.

Mac Allister also has a longer-term contract in place, which gives Liverpool significantly more control over his future compared to Jones. Any potential departure would likely depend on a major offer rather than a proactive decision from the club.

Liverpool more likely to move one midfielder than both

The overall picture suggests Liverpool are unlikely to sanction the exit of both players in the same window, with squad depth in midfield still a key consideration for the club’s rebuild.

If a choice has to be made, the balance of speculation currently leans towards Curtis Jones being the more likely departure, largely due to contract timing, external interest, and uncertainty over his long-term role.

Mac Allister, meanwhile, remains more dependent on unexpected offers rather than being actively pushed towards the exit.
