Darwin Nunez was heavily linked with a move to Napoli for most of the summer transfer window but after it fell through, the striker was reportedly very disappointed.
It’s hard not to feel sympathy for Nunez at how things have panned out for him. While you could argue that football is now very business-oriented and there are no personal feelings dictating his exit from Anfield, it’s not how his story was supposed to go.
Liverpool signed him for £64m plus add-0ns in 2022 but he simply hasn’t been able to make the grade on Merseyside. Simply put, the 26-year-old isn’t good enough to lead the line for the Reds and so he will be sold this summer.
Yet, it hasn’t been a simple or straightforward window for Nunez with it once again seeming as though his best shot of leaving Liverpool and earning a top wage remains in Saudi Arabia.

On Thursday, we covered a report that suggested that Liverpool and Nunez could receive an offer from the Saudi Pro League that would tick all the boxes for all parties involved.
Al-Hilal are reportedly ready to pay Liverpool €70m (£60.7m) while they are ready to present Nunez a huge salary offer that would allegedly equate to between £330,000 and £410,000 per week.
Neither Liverpool nor Nunez could ask for a better outcome after the way the last three years has gone for them – and Al-Hilal would sign a thrilling player.
Yet, it seems as though disappointment over the failed Napoli continues to rule over Nunez.
Darwin Nunez was gutted when his move to Napoli fell through

Napoli simply refused to pay the £60m Liverpool are demanding for the 26-year-old despite owner and CEO Aurelio De Laurentiis regularly calling the Reds demanding that their asking price be lowered.
Now, Fabrizio Romano reports on how the failed transfer impacted Nunez with his future still up in the air.
While speaking on the Here We Go podcast, the journalist shares: “[Nunez] is still trying to find a solution to leave Liverpool this summer.
“Napoli was quite disappointing from the player from what I can tell you because the player was really open to joining Napoli, [he was] excited by the opportunity to try a new chapter in Serie A, an exciting project with Antonio Conte as a coach.
“[They are] the champions of Italy, playing Champions League football with ambitions this season so Darwin was very open to that opportunity.”
