Yan Diomande remains a transfer target for Liverpool despite recent comments that suggest the Ivorian is not planning on leaving RB Leipzig this summer.

As we all know, Mohamed Salah is set to play his final Liverpool game against Brentford on Sunday. 257 goals and 122 assists later, the Egyptian King will say his farewell to Anfield.

What an almighty job Liverpool and FSG have on their hands replacing the greatest winger in Premier League history. If we’re honest, there isn’t a player in football right now that can adequately replace him. Even Michael Olise would fall short of the standards Salah has set at Liverpool.

Yet, Liverpool must try. They will, in all likelihood, need multiple attacking signings over the next few transfers to come close to the heights Salah hit in Liverpool Red.

The bad news on that front is that Yan Diomande may not be the certain signing he once seemed this season.

Transfer latest on Yan Diomande as vital summer transfer window beckons

Reporting for The Athletic, trusted journalist David Ornstein reports that Diomande is the ‘leading’ target for the Reds in their search for a glittering attacking lineup in the post-Salah era.

Ornstein writes: “RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has emerged as a leading target for Liverpool in their bid to strengthen the wide attacking positions this summer.

“Diomande is among Europe’s most coveted talents and the Anfield side are serious contenders for his signature, although they are sure to face stiff competition if the 19-year-old exits Leipzig.

“The Bundesliga team want to keep Diomande for another season and their case is enhanced by reaching the 2026-27 Champions League.

“But if suitable proposals arrive — Leipzig would aim to recoup in excess of €100million (£87.23m; $116.27m) — a transfer could happen.

“Liverpool have manoeuvred into a strong position with the player and if a deal looks plausible on that front, talks between the clubs can be expected to follow.”

The case for Diomande is an obvious one. Despite just one full season at senior level, the 19-year-old’s ability is self-evident. 13 goals and 10 assists this season for Leipzig is highly impressive given his age.
