Kevin De Bruyne grew up supporting Liverpool and may now get his chance to finally move to Anfield when his Man City contract expires.

The Premier League legend is free for transfer this summer as his Man City contract is expiring and while he is no spring chicken, De Bruyne very much remains one of the best in Europe.

Now 33 with legs that no longer allow him to breeze past opponents, it will be very interesting to see where the Belgian pass-master goes next. Especially given he will be 34 by the end of June.

That said, despite being past his prime and in a City team that looks very average, De Bruyne still managed six goals and eight assists and would be a curious addition to the Liverpool squad.

Report claims that De Bruyne is being “seriously” tempted by an offer from Liverpool

Liverpool are now preparing for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold which most players at Anfield won’t have experienced. In fact, Joe Gomez is the only player at the club that has ever played in a first-team setup at Anfield without the Scouser.

Now, however, it may be that Arne Slot is intrigued by recruiting De Bruyne as a stop-gap solution to losing Alexander-Arnold’s creativity this summer to buy time to investigate a more long-term solution.

According to Il Mattino, via CalcioNapoli1926, Liverpool have made an offer to De Bruyne to convince him to pick them from the vast pool of clubs likely being drawn to the idea of signing one of the best midfielders of all time.

The report claims that the six-time Premier League champions is “tempted by an offer” from Liverpool and is “seriously considering the approach”.

Napoli have also reportedly made a two-year offer of their own although details of Liverpool’s offer to De Bruyne are not mentioned.

Local media claim De Bruyne is not on Liverpool’s radar

Last week, when Gianluca Di Marzio first reported that Liverpool had made an offer for De Bruyne, there was an immediate reaction from the local press to dismiss the claim.

James Pearce reported for the Athletic that Liverpool are not interested in signing De Bruyne and have therefore not made a contract offer to win the free-agent race to recruit him this summer.

If there is any truth and local press have been informed otherewise as a ruse, only time will tell but for now, it’s best to assume that Liverpool are not on the cusp of signing De Bruyne.
