Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon is reportedly set to join Portsmouth on loan on deadline day, with a deal agreed to move to the Championship club.

The 20-year-old was loaned out to Norwich City during last summer’s transfer window, as he looked to enjoy regular playing time after struggling with injury problems.

Gordon’s time at Carrow Road was disappointing, however, with only one league start coming his way and 10 appearances in total in the competition. He also scored just scored once, further highlighting the lack of impact he had.

For that reason, the winger was recalled by Liverpool, with a January loan to another club hopefully happening, and it looks as though that will now happen.

According to Football Insider, Gordon “has agreed to join” Portsmouth on a temporary basis until the end of the season, as the south coast club look to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation to League One.

An ideal move for Gordon

It is positive to see Gordon find a fresh challenge before the current window ends, assuming the deal does go through, allowing him to rebuild his career after a tough time of things.

There is no question that the Englishman’s stock has fallen since his teenage years, when so much was expected of him, with Darren Wassall hailing him during a loan stint at Derby County, saying:

“His ability is very exciting, he’s got a lot of pace and talent. He’s got a fantastic left foot, first touch, an ability to run with the ball and dribble with it. “He’s lethal with his delivery from set-pieces. He sees a pass, he can score goals. His potential is massive.”

Hopefully, Gordon can be a key man for Pompey, taking up a spot on the right wing, and he will aim to have more success at Fratton Park than fellow Reds loanee Harvey Blair has this season.

The wide man has also only started once in the Championship in 2024/25 in date, and if the same happens there with Gordon, it would be another setback in his development.

A positive spell down south, prior to returning to Liverpool for pre-season, would be just what the doctor ordered for the youngster.
