Didi Hamann has slammed Mohamed Salah as “disgraceful” in Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven, with his work ethic not up to the standards required.
The Reds were woeful on Wednesday night, succumbing to a damaging defeat at Anfield, with so many players completely off the boil.
Salah’s poor season continued with an ineffective showing for Liverpool, with the Egyptian not offering enough in and out of possession in 2025/26 to date.
Speaking to RTE Sport [via talkSPORT], Hamann didn’t hold back in his criticism of Salah, not least the part he played in PSV’s second goal of the night:
“You’ve got to make a decision. In a way, I like that he kept the team from the other day, because he gave them a chance to redeem themselves. But then again, there comes a point when you’ve got to drop players. And even big players. I thought Salah might be one of the first ones to be dropped. He’s got a decision to make: do you get the sack with Salah? Or keep your job without him?
“This is the decision he has to make. He’s got to think, ‘These are the players who give me the best chance’. He gave him [Salah] a chance. I think it will be a different story on Sunday.”
Hamann then added: “What Salah did for the second PSV goal… Slot had the chance to take him off straight away. What he did there was disgraceful.”

Salah is a tough watch this season, struggling badly to match his past heights, with his end product drying up and age looking to be catching up with him.
The 33-year-old has never been one to track his runner too often, but the problem is, when he doesn’t deliver at the other end of the pitch, what exactly is he offering?
Some of the criticism of Salah feels too harsh at the moment, with others in Liverpool’s team more culpable – Jamie Carragher has called for Ibrahima Konate to be dropped – but there is no doubting that far more is needed, in terms of quality and work ethic.
