Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey wants to see Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola come in and replace Arne Slot this summer.
For a big chunk of Reds supporters, Slot has reached the end of the line at Anfield, following one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory.
As things stand, FSG appear to be showing faith in the Dutchman, but that isn’t stopping a number of potential replacements being linked with replacing him.
Speaking to Hajper [via Liverpool.com], Heskey talked up the idea of Liverpool bringing in the highly-rated Iraola this summer, not least because of his attacking playing style:
“Andoni Iraola has shown he has the capabilities. He’s shown that he’s a very, very intelligent coach. He’s played a back three. He’s played a back four.
“He knows how to change it up. One thing I will say, Bournemouth is not Liverpool, and we’ve seen this so many times. Liverpool is just a little bit different to some other clubs where you’re given plenty of time.
“So for me, yes, Iraola would be a great option because of the style of playing, and at [the] end of the day, we just want entertaining football as Liverpool fans.
“That’s what we got with Jurgen Klopp. That’s what we got in the first season under Arne Slot, but it just kind of tailed off to become a bit more possession-based. But we want that entertainment. We want our teams to be gung ho. That’s Iraola.”
Is Andoni Iraola the perfect replacement for Arne Slot at Liverpool?
Iraola is such an impressive manager, with the Spaniard still potentially guiding Bournemouth into the Champions League this weekend, even though it is highly unlikely.
The 43-year-old plays an exciting brand of football, full of high-octane pressing and creative quality in the final third, not dissimilar to Jurgen Klopp.
For that reason, Iraola feels like an ideal choice to replace Slot at Liverpool, should he be relieved of his duties, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.
Granted, the step up to a huge club can expose some managers – Thomas Frank at Tottenham stands out as a recent example – but Iraola has all the tools to excel at Anfield, and he would surely be a popular appointment.
