While Liverpool legend Alisson now looks likely to remain at the club this summer, a new update from former scout Mick Brown may concern the supporters.
The Reds have already lost Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate in recent weeks, meaning three big figures have moved on.
Meanwhile, Alisson has constantly been linked with a switch to Serie A giants Juventus, potentially bringing his iconic eight-year Liverpool career to an end.
While recent reports have indicated that the Brazilian will now stay for another season, Brown has now told Football Insider that it isn’t a given, as he assessed the squad situation:
“Iraola’s first task is going to be to assess his squad. He needs to know which players he wants to keep, which ones he wants to get rid of, and any positions on the pitch where he feels they will need to strengthen. We expect he will want to come in and get Liverpool playing the same way his Bournemouth side did, with energy and a high tempo, but that will require changes.
“There are a few key areas of the pitch which it has become clear will need upgrading, not least at centre-back, where Van Dijk is ageing and Konate is set to move on. They still need a new right-back, because Bradley and Frimpong haven’t been good enough and have had their injury issues.
“The goalkeeper is ageing now, he’s had injury problems too and we don’t know if he’s going to be allowed to leave. They’ve got good options in midfield, but they’re very similar types of players, so the manager might want to bring in a different profile in that position.
“And then the one I expect will be the biggest priority at the moment is finding a new winger to come in and replace Mohamed Salah, that’s going to be crucial.”
Liverpool must keep Alisson until 2027 at all costs
Liverpool simply must do all they can to ensure that Alisson doesn’t leave the club until at least next summer, with his influence still great, when fit.
It would be a huge blow for new Reds head coach Andoni Iraola to see the 33-year-old move on, having already witnessed a host of leaders head off for pastures new.
Despite Brown’s comments, an Alisson stay should still be expected for now, with the Liverpool icon then likely to bring an end to his Reds career in 2027.
To suddenly have Giorgi Mamardashvili as the first-choice goalkeeper next season would be a worry, with the Georgian still needing time to find his feet at Anfield.
