Alexis Mac Allister has been conspicously missing from Liverpool training media since the club returned for pre-season, raising concerns among fans.

Recently, rumours have circulated that Mac Allister is a target for Real Madrid although it seems doubtful they’d pay the £100m+ he is worth.

After losing Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free to Los Blancos and amid reports they also want Ibrahima Konate for free next season, it’s understandable fans are worried Mac Allister could be poached.

Yet, these concerns are wide of the mark, according to the latest claims.

Alexis Mac Allister absent from Liverpool’s behind closed doors friendly against Stoke City

On Sunday, Liverpool played against Stoke City in a friendly at the AXA Training Centre as Arne Slot and his coaches prepare the squad for the Premier League season which is just a few weeks away now.

Yet, Mac Allister was once again missing from the squad but, according to Italian journalist Lorenzo Lepore, there is a very innocent reason for his recent absenteeism.

The journalist reports: It is understood that Alexis Mac Allister has been training separately in recent days during Liverpool‘s pre-season, focusing on the rehabilitation of an old injury.”

After Liverpool had clinched the Premier League title, Slot rested Mac Allister to allow recovery to begin on a niggling muscle injury which appears to still be bothering him.

It’s good to hear Liverpool are no rushing Mac Allister back – he’s just too important

Last season solified Mac Allister as one of the most important players at Liverpool FC. He is officially one of the world class stars available to Slot – his performances last season confirmed this.

While there have yet to be any details reported on the issue that Macca is struggling with but even if Liverpool need to start the season without him, the most important thing is his long term fitness.

Macca is now too important to Liverpool for him to be sidelined for months but the longer the club stays quiet on the matter, the more concerned I will be.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool had a concerning habit of witholding the truth on injuries to the likes of Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic. The result was that fans were perennially expecting them back soon only to wait several months to find out, in Bajcetic’s case, he wouldn’t play again that season.

Hopefully, Mac Allister just needs a light load and some rest to recover from the problem.
