It’s no secret that Andoni Iraola’s defense is in a bit of a transitional spot right now. Losing the immense experience of both Ibrahima Konaté and Andy Robertson has left the squad looking incredibly light on depth and seriously young.
As things stand, Jérémy Jacquet is going to be thrown right into the deep end with heavy first-team minutes next season, and young Giovanni Leoni is going to be heavily relied upon too. When you remember we also have the brilliant Prince Kobe Cissé (doing great things for Wales youth) and Shadrach Ekiugbo (shining for England youth), adding another teenager to the ranks might seem like absolute overkill.

What makes the 16-year-old such a special talent is his utter composure on the ball. He is a modern, ball-playing center-back who can read the game like a seasoned pro. Winning 80% of your defensive duels and 63% of your aerial battles at international youth level is frighteningly good.
He obviously has a long development road ahead of him, but we all remember what happened the last time Liverpool signed a commanding centre-back from Celtic Park. Landing Jikiemi is a massive statement of intent for the future, and it gives us all something to be seriously excited about during a frustrating summer.
