Liverpool are planning a new contract for a hugely influential player alongside Andy Robertson, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Robertson is out of contract at Anfield at the end of this season, like Ibrahima Konate, and it remains to be seen if he will sign a new deal.

Speaking on Here We Go podcast [via This Is Anfield], Romano claimed that Liverpool are focusing on talks over a contract extension for Ryan Gravenberch:

“One I wanted to mention is Ryan Gravenberch. He has been one of the most positive players in terms of performances at the beginning of this season, and Liverpool are very happy with him.

“What I can tell you is that Liverpool are preparing discussions with his agent over a new contract. It is not something that is advanced at this stage, so Liverpool have not already prepared a contract agreement with Gravenberch.

“But the idea internally at the club is to have a conversation with the player and to start talking as soon as possible. So keep an eye on Gravenberch because I think in the next months there will be talks over a new deal, with the player very happy at Liverpool, and Liverpool considering him one of the best midfielders in the world.”

Romano also added that Dominik Szoboszlai is in a similar position, with the Hungarian “one of the most professional players at Liverpool” – one who “could be another topic for the next months.”

New Liverpool deals essential for Gravenberch and Szoboszlai

Gravenberch has matured into one of Europe’s best holding midfielders, following a slow first season at Liverpool, so a new deal for him is a no-brainer.

He is still a young player who should only improve further, and the hope is that he remains a Reds player for as many years as possible.

As for Szoboszlai, he has arguably been Liverpool’s best and most consistent performer so far this season, and he is another figure who has a huge role to play in the coming years.

Other big clubs will no doubt try and prise both Gravenberch and Szoboszlai away, but hopefully, they look at the Reds and believe that plenty more trophy success is on its way, despite their current poor form.
