Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the situation involving Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, as Liverpool continue to conduct an internal review of Arne Slot’s performance and long-term direction.
Liverpool’s inconsistent campaign has led to speculation about potential changes behind the scenes, with various managers being loosely linked depending on how the club assesses the season’s outcome.
Iraola, who has impressed in the Premier League with Bournemouth, has been mentioned in wider discussions about emerging managerial options across England.
Romano has clarified that while Iraola is highly rated, there is currently no indication of an advanced move or formal approach from Liverpool at this stage.
“Iraola is a dream target for Palace, they are prepared to try and offer important money,” he told his YouTube channel on Saturday night. “But at the moment my understanding is that nothing is done or agreed. There is a proposal on the table, but Iraola wants to wait.
“Maybe in the manager’s domino he could get a different kind of opportunity and so we have to be attentive to that. He is probably hoping that another club appears.
“I can also tell you that Iraola rejected an approach from a club outside of England last week. Because he wants to continue in England. It’s a name that I would keep in this manager’s domino.”
The Spanish coach has earned praise for his tactical organisation and ability to compete against stronger squads, which has increased his profile among top clubs monitoring the managerial market.
However, Liverpool’s immediate focus remains internal, with the club still evaluating Arne Slot’s first full season in charge before making any significant decisions.
The Dutch manager’s position has naturally come under scrutiny due to inconsistent results and growing pressure from supporters, but there is no clear confirmation of any imminent change.
Romano’s update suggests that while Liverpool are always attentive to potential future candidates, any managerial decision is unlikely to be rushed without a full internal assessment process.
Iraola’s name is therefore part of a broader landscape of admired coaches rather than an active negotiation or advanced target at this stage.
For now, Liverpool’s hierarchy are expected to continue reviewing performance data and squad development before deciding on any strategic changes heading into the next campaign.
