Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has addressed speculation suggesting that Xabi Alonso has agreed to a three-year contract with Liverpool, providing clarification on the situation amid growing rumours.

Reports circulated suggesting that Alonso, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young managers, had already reached an agreement to take charge at Anfield.

However, Romano indicated that the situation is not as advanced as some reports have implied.

According to Romano, there is currently no confirmed agreement between Liverpool and Alonso regarding a managerial appointment.

While the Spaniard continues to be admired for his tactical approach and leadership qualities, the suggestion that a formal deal has been finalized appears premature.

He said: “I saw many questions in the chat about this one. Is true or is not true that Xabi Alonso has agreed already a three-year contract with Liverpool?

“At the moment, there is nothing done agreed in talks advanced between Xabi Alonso and Liverpool. I can guarantee that nothing has been decided.

“At the end of the season, Liverpool will have an internal review involving players, managers, and all people at the club.

“So there is going to be an internal conversation to review the season, but at the moment nothing is decided, nothing is agreed with Xabi Alonso. There is an appreciation, of course, former Liverpool player, top coach. So for sure, between Xabi Alonso and Liverpool, the feelings are positive, but nothing at all has been agreed as of today.”

Alonso’s coaching reputation has risen rapidly due to his success in developing cohesive and disciplined teams. His understanding of modern tactical systems has attracted interest from several clubs seeking long-term managerial solutions.

Liverpool supporters have naturally shown interest in the possibility of Alonso returning to the club in a coaching capacity, given his history as a player and his strong connection with the fan base.

However, Romano emphasised that any such development would require careful planning and formal negotiations.

Managerial appointments often involve extensive discussions that extend beyond simple contract agreements. Factors such as staffing arrangements, transfer budgets, and long-term strategy typically play major roles in determining whether a move proceeds.

Romano also noted that speculation tends to intensify whenever a high-profile name becomes linked with a club of Liverpool’s stature. In many cases, reports emerge before formal discussions have even taken place.

For now, the situation remains uncertain, with no official confirmation that Alonso has agreed to join Liverpool in any capacity. Supporters are therefore advised to treat ongoing rumours with caution until credible announcements are made.

As the season progresses, clarity may emerge regarding Liverpool’s long-term managerial planning. Until then, speculation surrounding Alonso is likely to continue as interest in his coaching career grows.
