Arne Slot is continuing to battle to save his job as Liverpool’s head coach amid the Mohamed Salah drama, and now a new update has emerged on his future.

The Dutchman is enduring the toughest period of his managerial career, with the Reds’ performances and results simply not good enough on a regular basis.

Further pressure has been heaped on Slot after the 3-3 draw away to Leeds United over the weekend, as well as Salah’s post-match comments claiming he doesn’t have “any relationship” with his boss, also adding:

“I called my mum yesterday and told them ‘come to the Brighton game’, it doesn’t matter if I play or not, I’m going to enjoy it. We’ll see what’s going to happen, but in my head I’m going to enjoy that game if I play or not, I’m on the bench or not.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen now, but that’s going to be at Anfield, say goodbye to the fans before the Africa Cup, because I don’t know what’s going to happen when I’m there.”

“It’s not acceptable for me to be fair, I don’t know why it’s happening.”

Now, talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook has taken to X to say that the “LFC board continue to back” Slot, suggesting he won’t be going anywhere for the time being.

In the article itself, he states that the 47-year-old has the “full backing” of those at the top at Anfield, and that there is “major doubt” over Salah being picked for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan.

The biggest week yet for Slot at Liverpool

Slot is rightly under massive scrutiny right now, following a disastrous season after the title-winning campaign, and this feels like a pivotal week for him.

Forgetting the Salah situation, which is threatening to dominate, there are tough games at Inter and at home to Brighton in the next five days, and losses in both would surely change FSG’s stance on Slot.

Positive results are needed in both matches – a draw with Inter and victory over the Seagulls, for example – or the calls for a new boss to come in will only grow louder.
