Liverpool remain attentive to the situation surrounding Lamine Yamal, with the club continuing to monitor developments as FC Barcelona attempt to secure the teenager’s long-term future with a new deal.

The 17-year-old winger has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in European football, and while Barcelona have made renewing his contract a top priority, both Liverpool and Manchester City are keeping a close eye on negotiations in the event that an opportunity arises.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona intend to tie Yamal down until 2030, making him one of the highest-paid players in the squad.

The Catalan club hopes to complete the extension around his 18th birthday in mid-July. However, the renewal is currently pending due to ongoing financial constraints, with the club still not operating under La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule.

Despite Yamal’s public commitment to Barcelona – he has reportedly informed his agent that his desire is to stay – those close to the situation, including super-agent Jorge Mendes, remain cautious.

Past experiences involving other Mendes clients such as João Félix and João Cancelo, whose contract expectations were not fully met, have made the agent wary of verbal assurances.

Liverpool are not actively pursuing the player at this stage, but the club’s recruitment team is keeping a close eye on Yamal’s evolving situation.

Yamal’s performances this season have more than justified the hype surrounding him. His rise in prominence for both club and country has made him a valuable asset, and Liverpool recognise his generational talent.

He fits the club’s long-term vision of recruiting elite-level youth talent capable of making an immediate impact in the first team.

While Barcelona remain confident of finalising the deal, the July contract date is not yet official and remains verbal. Liverpool, therefore, will continue to observe from a respectful distance, prepared to act swiftly should the dynamics shift in their favour.

As it stands, Yamal remains a Barcelona player and is expected to renew. But in modern football, circumstances can change quickly – and Liverpool’s interest ensures that the saga remains one to watch closely as the summer window approaches.
