Reports in Spain suggest that Liverpool and Mohamed Salah are “closer than ever” to putting pen to paper on another long-term contract amid the Egyptian’s best season in the Premier League yet.

The 2024/25 season has been an eventful one, to say the least. Liverpool are flying under Arne Slot and, with the exception of the FA Cup, his side are dominating in every tournament but there are several issues detracting from the excitement of the football on display.

The main one is Mohamed Salah’s contract situation. The Egyptian is the main reason behind the surge back to the top of English football that Liverpool have enjoyed over the last eight or nine years.

This season, the former Chelsea winger has 47 goals and assists in all competitions and it’s safe to say that without his wondrous form, Liverpool may not be in the title race. Yet, with just over four months to go until the end of his contract, there has been little good news over a potential extension.

That is until now.

Report claims Mo Salah is “closer than ever” to completing contract extension

Football 365 cites reports from Spain as claiming: “Salah negotiates a last-minute offer that turns the Premier League upside down”.

The report states: “With Liverpool fighting for the Premier League and with serious aspirations in the Champions League , Salah feels that he can continue competing for the most important titles in Europe without having to leave. This factor, added to the confidence that Slot has given him, has made the Egyptian reconsider his decision to leave.”

Liverpool have to do everything possible to keep Salah

The conversation surrounding Salah’s contract extension has been varied but most people agree on one thing: Salah is too good to be allowed to leave for free.

In my opinion, he’s the best player on the planet currently. There isn’t a forward in Europe with as many goals and assists as the Egyptian and, frankly, he has earned the right to make outlandish requests of FSG.

Salah is clearly not slowing down despite being 32 so Liverpool need to pay Salah what he’s asking for and make sure he stays at Anfield to bring more silverware to the club before he does eventually leave.
