Liverpool are at a crossroads, and failure to seize the moment will likely haunt them as Arne Slot continues to fail to rectify the situation.
Not only is Slot struggling to improve things, but the situation is getting worse.
While Liverpool are now fifth in the Premier League and holding one of English football’s five qualifying spots for the Champions League, the Reds are on the verge of crashing out of the competition after defeat to Galatasaray.
The financial gamble of keeping Slot cannot be ignored, but more importantly, he seems to have lost the support of both the global fanbase and now the support of some match-going fans too. Boos rang out after the full-time whistle brought an end to the 1-1 draw with Spurs.
Liverpool’s American ownership FSG should release Arne Slot before more damage has been done. Xabi Alonso has been heavily linked as the man to replace him, but he has made himself unavailable until the summer.
This leaves one option, and that option is to hire a caretaker manager. The success Manchester United have had with Michael Carrick in a similar role should encourage FSG to make the brave move.
There is only one person right for a caretaker role at Liverpool
Steven Gerrard.
The legendary midfielder has already made it publicly known that he would honour any call to service from his beloved club.
“I’ll be brutally, brutally honest with you: I’d help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I’d help them in anything,” he said in December 2025.
“I don’t want the Liverpool manager to lose his job, I want Arne Slot to fix this and turn it around and make Liverpool great.
“I was bouncing all over the city four, five months ago when Liverpool won the league. I’m a Liverpool fan, I want the best for Liverpool.
“But if Liverpool need me, in any department at any time, I’ll be there for them.”
What could Gerrard do that Slot cannot?
In his playing days, Gerrard was a natural leader of men. He commanded respect through his actions far more than his words. That’s not to say he is not capable of motivating people through talk alone, but his love and dedication to the club are contagious.
Liverpool need someone who can lift the team & fan base, someone who demands respect the moment they enter a room. That person is Steven Gerrard. If we go out on Wednesday, the noise for him to come in until the end of the season will be deafening. Give him the call. #LFC

Liverpool do not need a tactical overhaul before the end of the season – they need someone who can get them doing the basics right, and restore some semblance of confidence to players who have lost their mojo.
Gerrard ticks all the boxes for what a caretaker would need to offer in the remaining two months of the season.
