New Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive in England today and is currently on a private jet heading to the UK.

Yesterday, Liverpool announced his move to Anfield but it has been one of the worst kept secrets in football over the last year.

The Reds reached an agreement with Valencia last summer to sign him this year and after spending one final season with the La Liga club, he is now on his way to Merseyside.

According to Sky Sports Nicholas Bieber, Mamardashvili is currently heading to Liverpool from his native Georgia.

Bieber reports: “MAMARDASHVILI IS FLYING TO LIVERPOOL!

“New LFC goalkeeper Mamardashvili is currently en route to Liverpool John Lennon Airport on a private jet from Tbilisi in Georgia.

“He officially joined the club yesterday, and will arrive later this afternoon.

“Welcome, Giorgi!”

Fabrizio Romano then shared a picture of Mamardashvili and his agent an hour later as they travel to the UK.

Mamardashvili is an astute signing and part of massive summer project

The Georgian goalkeeper might not be the most exciting signing but Liverpool acted smartly last summer to sign Caoimhin Kelleher’s replacement 12 months ahead of time.

Liverpool are now famous globally for their planning and execution in the transfer market. While they rarely make huge moves, the Reds go about every transfer the same way.

If they believe there is a player to at is the perfect fit for the profile they are looking for, they go and get him.

If they are unsuccessful, unlike other clubs, Liverpool don’t act rashly and take their time to make sure they get the next best target.

Liverpool shocked the entire football world with their audacious move to sign Florian Wirtz, convincing him to choose Anfield over the Allianz Arena and the Etihad Stadium.

Mamardashvili might not be in the same stratosphere as Wirtz but his signing shows just as much forward thinking as the deal to sign the German playmaker.

Liverpool have already spent £216m this summer and while their £64m in sales has reduced this, more exits are needed to reduce their net spend.
