Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has suggested that the club faces a significant challenge that may prove difficult to resolve in the near future.

Souness believes that maintaining consistency across demanding competitions remains one of the biggest tests for modern teams. Liverpool’s ambitions require sustained performance levels, which can be challenging when managing squad fatigue and tactical demands.

According to Souness, the issue extends beyond individual performances and instead relates to structural balance within the team.

He pointed out that even strong squads can encounter difficulties when certain positions lack depth or when tactical adjustments fail to produce expected results.

He said: “You have to point out that Salah has not turned up this year. The numbers tell you that. How many games in the last seven years has he been the difference in terms of creating or scoring a goal that would change a game?

“That’s a that’s a big problem for them. Replacing that.”

He also emphasised the importance of adaptability in responding to setbacks. Teams competing at the highest level must be capable of adjusting strategies quickly when faced with unexpected obstacles.

Another concern highlighted by Souness involves maintaining defensive reliability while continuing to pursue attacking opportunities. Balancing these priorities requires coordination across the entire squad.

Liverpool’s coaching staff are likely aware of these concerns and are expected to evaluate potential solutions through both tactical changes and recruitment planning.

Souness acknowledged that solving complex football challenges rarely happens instantly. Instead, improvements often occur gradually as players gain experience and systems become more refined.

Supporters remain hopeful that the club’s leadership will address any underlying issues before they develop into long-term problems. The ability to respond effectively to criticism has historically been a hallmark of successful teams.

Ultimately, Souness believes that identifying the problem early increases the likelihood of finding a workable solution.
