Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is reportedly desperate to manage at Anfield, but FSG will have to part ways with Arne Slot to make it happen.

Scrutiny over Slot’s performance at Liverpool is at its peak, with supporters calling for the Dutchman’s dismissal after a torrid 2025-26 campaign.

Liverpool have lost 20 games in all competitions this season, but even more concerning is the team’s lack of identity, hunger and fight. There is also a major disconnect between the manager and fans that goes deeper than just poor football results.

Anfield is a stadium whose inhabitants demand a close emotional tie to their leader. Jurgen Klopp was the perfect representation of this and while the German is a one-in-a-million manager

The relationship that Iraola has fostered with the Bournemouth faithful is a lot more like what Kopites are lacking. There is also his heavy metal brand of football that speaks to fans.

Iraola reportedly hoped that Liverpool would sack Arne Slot so he could take over

According to French journalist Julien Laurens, Liverpool may have already missed their window to hire Andoni Iraola, with the Spaniard needing to make an imminent decision on where to go after Bournemouth.

The 43-year-old is set to leave the Cherries at the end of the season, but it doesn’t currently seem possible for him to make his desired move to Liverpool.

“No [he won’t stay at Bournemouth],” Laurens told ESPN FC when asked if Iraola could backtrack and stay at the Vitality Stadium next season.

“It’s a good idea, and it’s a bit of a shame when you get to that point, if they do make the Champions League you would want to see him leading that team into the Champions League, that would be very special. But no, there’s no way back. He wants a step up to a bigger club.

“I think for a long time he was hoping that maybe Liverpool would get rid of Arne Slot and that would be the perfect fit for him.

“That’s not going to happen for now, but I don’t rule out the chance that he won’t have a club at the start of next season and he will take a bit of time to make sure that the right offer comes, which might come at Liverpool if Arne Slot doesn’t last until November, for example, that’s a strong possibility.

“But I don’t think he can stay at Bournemouth, and I think he will be very particular in where he goes next, because he wants something quite big and something that he thinks is the right project for him.”
