Liverpool are closing in on a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz and the German attacking star is set to earn a king’s ransom at Anfield.

Supporters are living some of the best days in the club’s history right now as Arne Slot looks set to usher in a new era of dominance just as Bob Paisley did when he inherited the side from Bill Shankly in 1974.

Yet, for the first time, Liverpool are set to sign a true superstar in the transfer market for a club record fee. Latest reports indicate that the Reds are willing to pay £83.9m (€100m) up front with an undisclosed sum in realistically achievable add-ons.

With Liverpool looking to wrap up a deal to sign the 21-year-0ld this week, let’s take a look at how much he is set to be paid to choose Anfield over the Allianz Arena.

Liverpool set to break precedent with salary offer to Florian Wirtz thanks to Trent rejecting £300,000 per week

Thiago Alcantara is the only player I can recall that joined Liverpool and immediately earned more than all but two players. Only Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were paid more than the £220,000/week that Thiago was paid from the get go.

Wirtz won’t be the highest paid player at Liverpool – not after the mammoth bumper contracts that van Dijk and Salah signed this season.

According to the Times‘ Paul Joyce, van Dijk is now earning £385,000 per week while Salah is on a colossal £480,000 per week.

Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly rejected £300,000 per week to run his contract down in order to join Madrid for free and boost the signing-on bonus the La Liga outfit will pay him.

Now, FSG seem set to break club protocol and all precedent to offer Florian Wirtz a starting contract of £16.7 million per year or the equivalent of £322,000 per week, according to Liverpool.com.

Is Wirtz worth £300,000 per week?

It’s difficult to say given he is so young but Liverpool rarely offer those kind of wages to anyone let alone a new signing so it speaks volumes that owner John W. Henry and CEO of Football Michael Edwards believe it’s good value for money.

Wirtz is already one of the best playmakers in the world and is moving to a team even better than the one he is leaving which suggests he should arguably be even more successful at Anfield than at the BayArena.
