A new update has emerged regarding the future of a popular Liverpool player, with a big European club reportedly planning a sizeable bid for his services.
While much focus is on Luis Diaz at Anfield currently, with the Colombian hinting at wanting a move to Barcelona or Bayern Munich, Darwin Nunez’s future is also a key talking point.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Napoli are now planning to table an improved offer for the Uruguayan – one that is expected to be more than £47.4m:
“Nunez has already agreed on personal terms with Napoli and is open to the move. Now, Napoli are ready to go higher. The new bid is expected to be above €55m, and although the final number has not been decided yet, the club’s intention is clear: they want to exceed €60m in total to try and close the gap with Liverpool’s demands.”
Time for Liverpool and Nunez to part ways
Nunez has his merits as a footballer, not least his team ethic, with former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand heaping praise on him in the past:
“I think he was in the right areas to score goals. His work rate is one of his main traits. He was involved in all the good stuff that Liverpool did tonight and that’s what you want from your striker. Especially as he’s searching for some confidence – if you an do that in that mode, when he gets a bit of momentum and confidence he could be a player. I think he’s a handful to play against. You just want him to be a bit cleaner in front of goal and start executing.”
Nunez has had three years to show that he is good enough to be Liverpool’s leading striker, but more often than not, he has flattered to deceive in front of goal, and struggled in his all-round game.
This summer is the right time for the Reds to part ways with the 26-year-old, selling him for good money before his valuation begins to drop too much.
It is easy to see him thriving more in Italy, and Liverpool can use the money received for him to sign a superior centre forward before the end of the summer transfer window.
