Liverpool are inching closer and closer to finally signing Hugo Ekitike after months of speculation over who would succeed Darwin Nunez in the No.9 role.
This week saw the Reds finally show their hand in their quest to sign a top new striker. Liverpool informed Newcastle United of their serious intent to sign Alexander Isak for a Premier League record fee in the region of £120m.
Despite the enticing offer, Newcastle refused to accept the terms and will head into the new season with Isak leading their line once again, however, they have lost out on their primary transfer target for the summer.
Eddie Howe hoped to pair Isak with Hugo Ekitike but Liverpool are in the final stages of talks with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign the French forward.
Liverpool have already agreed a six-year contract with Ekitike, highlighting their vision for the 23-year-old. Ekitike scored 22 goals last season and Liverpool believe he can translate that to England’s top flight despite just one season of operating at that level.
Hugo Ekitike agrees Liverpool contract, submits transfer request as official bid is prepared for Frankurt

According to German outlet Sport BILD, “Hugo Ekitiké (23) is apparently close to a move to Liverpool FC” with the Reds reportedly “preparing an offer, while rival Newcastle United, which also tried to sign the attacker, is already looking for other candidates.”
Frankfurt are reportedly confident that they will be able to receive the €100m (£87m) they have “demanded” in exchange for Ekitike’s services. The player “wants to join Liverpool” and has supposedly submitted a transfer request to make the move happen.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has also reported today that Liverpool “are optimistic on reaching an agreement” with Frankfurt. “Advanced talks continuing today and potentially over the weekend.”
Ekitike is the next best thing even if missing out on Isak is a disappointment

Liverpool did what they could to sign Isak and while it’s disappointing to learn he won’t join the Reds this summer, it is by no means a failure as Ekitike is a wonderful player.
The French striker has everything a Liverpool player needs: high IQ, selflessness, pace, finishing, dribbling skill, aerial dominance, creativity and a high defensive work ethic.
Liverpool might not be signing one of the very most elite strikers but it won’t be too long before Ekitike himself is one of the best forwards in Europe.
