Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have both signed contract extensions at Liverpool.
Speculation continues to surround the futures of Van Dijk and Salah, as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold, with all three out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season.
Liverpool supporters are simply having to keep their fingers crossed that the trio will all sign new deals, but it remains to be seen if that will be the case.
Speaking to Football Insider, Sky Sports pundit Robinson claimed that he has been informed that Van Dijk and Salah have already agreed contact extensions, saying:
“But for what we’re hearing and what we’re getting out of Liverpool, we’re hearing that, well, I’m hearing from my sources that Van Dijk and Mo Salah are as good as done and Trent’s the one that’s not done and that’s the one that we’ve suspected all along isn’t it?
“So I think Mo Salah at Liverpool for another two years makes so much sense, pay him what he wants, him what he wants, he’s the best player in the Premier League. Van Dijk as well even at his age.”
Most likely Liverpool pair to stay put?
This is clearly exciting news, should Robinson be correct, with Van Dijk and Salah arguably the greatest player in their respective position in Liverpool’s history.
Granted, they may now be 33 and 32 years old, respectively, but they are still arguably the first two names on Arne Slot’s team sheet, proving to be the catalyst to the Reds’ success so far this season.
As continues to be the case, however, Alexander-Arnold’s future feels like it is in doubt, with Liverpool’s vice-captain’s head potentially turned by interest from Real Madrid.
He is at a different point in his career than his two teammates, perhaps feeling that now is the best time for a fresh challenge while at the peak of his powers, so he has a massive decision to make.
Liverpool fans will be split when it comes to who they most want to stay, but if Van Dijk and Salah sign new deals and Alexander-Arnold departs, it may be a scenario that some are willing to shake on.
