Mohamed Salah was substituted against Crystal Palace after falling to the ground with pain in his hamstring, putting his World Cup hopes at risk.

Salah has endured criticism from far and wide this season, and the end to his Liverpool career may be sadder than first thought. After being removed from the field of play due to injury in the second half, the next few days will tell us more about when he will return.

Liverpool’s last game of the season is a Premier League clash with Brentford at Anfield, giving him a day short of a month to recover for what will hopefully be a beautiful send-off for the Reds’ best attacker in the modern era.

Arne Slot on Salah’s injury“We don’t know, that’s the best answer I can give because if I say it might be a chance then probably all the headlines are, ‘there might be a chance…’

“We simply don’t know but what we do know is the season is in four weeks over, so there are not a lot of games being played.

“We have to wait and see how his injury is and if he is able to return to play.

“What I do know about Mo is throughout all of these years he has taken such good care of his body that he will have the minimum time required to recover from an injury.

“Let’s hope for the best and that he is available in the last part [of the season].”

Salah will more than likely be fit to face Egypt in the World Cup, but the Egyptian FA will be anxiously waiting for any injury updates from Liverpool over the next few days.

Egypt play their first game of the World Cup against Belgium on 15 June, which gives Salah roughly a month and a half to get fit. Depending on the severity of the injury, he could even be ready for Egypt’s training camp.

Liverpool fans will be desperate for good news in the coming days to learn if they will be able to celebrate Salah’s career in the aftermath of the Brentford game.

In his nine years at Liverpool, Salah has won six major trophies for Liverpool, scoring 257 goals and assisting 122 in the process. He is truly one of the best players to ever grace the Premier League and Europe at large.

Where will Salah go when he leaves Liverpool in the summer?

Salah still has a year left on his contract, but he will leave Liverpool in the summer on a free transfer.

Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked while there remains the slim chance that he opts for the MLS or Saudi Pro League.

Despite the comparative lack of output this season, Salah remains an elite forward and can contribute to the success of other top teams in Europe’s top five leagues if he so chooses.

This is Salah’s worst season in nine years, yet he still has 12 goals and nine assists in all competitions – 21 goal contributions in total. Not bad for a bad season.
