Liverpool fans are told to not “rule out” a summer move for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba but a pinch of salt is needed because the “big problem” is the massive fee the Seagulls are sure to ask for the 21-year-old Cameroonian.
It’s no surprise that just about every big Premier League club is desperate to sign Baleba.
He has been absolutely sensational this season even if you won’t find him charting on top scorers or assisters list.
Mind you, he does have three goals and two assists from a deep position.
The Seagulls are likely to demand a similar fee to the £111m they received from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo.
For Liverpool and Arne Slot, he would be a dream come true.
He is one of the best tacklers in Europe, ranking in the 89th percentile for attacking third tackles, in the 95th percentile for dribblers tackled per 90 (1,.66), the 90th percentile for blocks per 90 (1.88) and the 90th percentile for interceptions per 90 (1.62).
In Liverpool’s midfield, he would flourish and would allow the likes of Mohamed Salah to thrive with the protection and athleticism he would bring to the Reds’ engine room.
Liverpool fans told not to rule out a summer move for Carlos Baleba
Speaking to the Anfield Index, Liverpool journalist David Lynch discussed the possibility of Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
“I think Liverpool like him because I think they liked him when he was at Lille beforehand. It was just a case of Brighton willing to take the risk at that point of bringing him over and giving him games,” Lynch said.
“Liverpool want something that is a little bit closer to the finished product when they sign a player so I know he is someone that has been on the radar.
“The big problem there is how much Brighton are going to ask for, it’s possibly insane money. He is a very capable player and Liverpool are hardly short of money. I wouldn’t rule this one out at all, but I haven’t heard anything concrete around that.”
