Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has lambasted the Reds’ defending during the 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the Premier League over the weekend.

The champions were abysmal at Anfield against a Spurs side who are arguably the worst team in the league on current form, conceding a late Richarlison equaliser in front of the Kop.

Yet again, the pressure has cranked up on Arne Slot, with the boos ringing around the stadium at the final whistle highlighting the level of unrest currently.

Speaking on Sky Sports, a frustrated Carragher didn’t hold back in his criticism of the Reds’ result, not least the defending that was on show:

“The defending was absolutely shocking from Liverpool. I’ve been saying all half that Liverpool have been sleepwalking into this,” Carragher said.

“It was an awful performance. No disrespect to Tottenham but they are the worst team in the Premier League now, probably for the last couple of months.

“They are exactly who you want to play, playing at home, the incentive of your results this weekend and to put in a performance like that. But it’s been like that all season.

“And the big question on everybody’s lips is: ‘Is that down to the manager or the make-up of the squad?’ Could a new manager completely revitalise these type of players and bring that energy and sort of intensity back into this team? I’m not sure.”

Liverpool need to sack Arne Slot…NOW!

Slot will always be appreciated for winning the Premier League title with Liverpool last season, but he has endured a woeful 2025/26 in charge, and there is an inevitability about his exit.

It feels most likely that the Dutchman will be sacked in the summer, barring a miraculous turnaround, but FSG should be thinking about making a change now.

If Xabi Alonso wants to wait until the end of the season to take the job, Steven Gerrard should come in on an interim basis, giving Liverpool the boost they need and providing a feeling of positivity at Anfield.

Reds fans are being served up the same dull football and poor results every week, and nothing is going to change between now and May.
